GP Psych Support is an advisory service providing GPs with psychiatry advice in the management of their patients mental health matters, within 24 hours.

GP Psych Support will continue to provide advice for GPs throughout the Christmas period, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call Centre staff and psychiatrists will be available to respond to your enquiries.

Please note: Administrative staff will not be available between 12:00pm on the 23 December 2011 and 3 January 2012, due to organisational shutdown over the Christmas break. If you are registering as a user for the first time, your submission will not be processed during this period. To check whether you are already registered, please call 1800 012 422 and our call centre staff will be able to assist you.

  • older people & frail elderly psychiatry.

The Service psychiatrists receive a wide range of enquiries for all mental health matters; areas include:
 
  • diagnosis
  • medications and dosages
  • general management
  • non-pharmacological management
  • referral options.
Once registered, submitting an enquiry to GP Psych Support is easy:
 
Free Phone: 1800 200 588 where a call operator will transcribe your enquiry and submit on your behalf
Free Fax: submit a completed faxback form along with any relevant attachments to 1800 012 422
Webmail: login to your account on this webpage by selecting ?login? and then select new patient or existing patient to start your enquiry. If previously registered and you have misplaced your login details call 1800 200 588 to retrieve them.


If you are not registered for the service please do so by clicking 'register' above, complete and submit the registration form. You will then be contacted with your username and password.


Please note:the GP Psych Support Service is not appropriate for emergency cases. GPs that have patients with a high risk of suicidal ideation; suicidal intent; or risk to others should not submit an enquiry about these patients to GP Psych Support but refer them to acute psychiatric emergency services. Where a patients risk is assessed as low to moderate risk in each of the three risk categories the GP is permitted to submit an enquiry for response. The responsibility for clinical management decisions remains the sole responsibility of the treating GP.
