About us

'GP Psych Support' is a service providing access to patient management advice from psychiatrists.
The site has a new look and feel, we welcome your feedback.

GP Psych Support:
  • is funded by the Australian Government as part of the Better Outcomes in Mental Health Care program.
  • has been developed, in consultation with GPs, to provide GPs with access to quality patient management advice from a psychiatrist to assist them to manage their patients with a mental health disorder.
  • is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • is not intended for emergency situations or patients assessed as high risk. These patients should be referred to your normal acute psychiatric emergency service.
  • The GP Psych Service does not include the provision of services to GPs in relation to personal and family matters however assistance is provided through the local Doctors Advisory Service.

The psychiatrists employed for GP Psych Support have been selected based on their understanding of general practice and the pressures and constraints in which you practice. The psychiatrists are providing advice only. Primary responsibility for patient care remains with the GP.

psychsupport.com.au is a secure and password protected website. If you don't already have a login name and password, contact the GP Psych Support team on 1800 200 588 and have your RACGP ID or Provider Number handy. You will then be able to log in and submit your query, and can expect a response from a psychiatrist in your "GP Psych Support Inbox" within 24 hours.

Alternatively, to submit a question to GP Psych Support phone and fax service call 1800 200 588 or print the Fax Back Form (pdf 0.1 MB) and fax to the number on the form (contact details).
